Obtained by the United States in the Louisiana Purchase, Iowa became a territory in 1838 and a state in 1846. Taken from microfilm copies of original county documents, each record provides spouses' names, marriage date, and county of residence. Records vary between counties, as outlined below.

Adair County was formed in 1851 from Pottawamie, Dallas, Mahaska, Monroe, and Polk counties. The records from the county in this database cover the years 1854 through 1900.
